"With our experience in supporting these types of events, we can say without hesitation, that the past Global Fashion Show was one of the best community events that we supported in 2010. Not only was the event very well organized, it was a wonderful gathering of our multi-cultural community. It was an incredible "coming together"! To see the enthusiam and the sharing of all the cultural groups involved was indeed an emotional, visual and enthusiastic celebration."

Senior Program Manager,

"I believe this event fills a gap within the community which allows people to celebrate and share their own heritage and culture with their neighbors, friends, colleagues and the public. I also believe this show would be a very welcome event in many other communities across Canada. The opportunity for Canadians to come together with new and 'not so new' immigrants is very much needed. People are proud of their heritage and all too often this is left behind as people settle into conforming with their new home/community. Global Fashions was very inclusive of all cultures, ages and beauty. I believe this represented Canada in a fresh, fun and informative way."

"I became involved with Global Fashions through the irresistable, efficient and utterly organized Robin Adams, and felt immediately proud of my decision to be a part of such an amazing show. In Victoria, we are used to visitors and immigrants alike, and indeed have a rich multicultural population. To celebrate it in such a dynamic, fresh, and multi-layered event such as the Global Fashions show seems only right; in fact, long overdue.
This show is an unforgettable experience, a way to hone your skills creatively, learn about beauty worldwide, and great exposure for your craft and business. It is an absolutely incredible opportunity for an artist at any level to use their skills to give something back to our community. How often can we say that doing someone's makeup can help change their life?
To volunteer your time is a gift, of course - but to have the opportunity to not only volunteer to an infinitely worthy cause like this one AND help create and see the product of your efforts in such a huge scale is amazing. And it's fun! Chatting to these women while doing their makeup was hugely educational. Their excitement for their turn on that runway was infectious, and these ladies were so appreciative to everyone who helped out that day. I can't wait to see what's in store for Global Fashions 2011!"

"Alina Fisher's Sword Dance was a special treat, a breath-taking display of physical mastery that could have gone wrong at the slightest misstep but was executed with total precision....Another highlight of the evening was the performance by Tanzanian model: Mariam Nungwana who sang a song co-written by her late sister. The crowd loved the upbeat number and cheered her walk back up the runway."

" I attended the show last year and was very impressed. The event was very professionally organized and choreographed. In addition to the tremendous number of cultures represented, the organizer ensured that there was a variety of ages and body types as well; this reinforced the idea that beauty comes in all shapes and forms. The music and entertainment was also of a very high caliber. I have never seen so much diversity and talent under one roof!"

"When I attended the first rehearsal, I felt very welcomed by all the other volunteers. It was so interesting to see all the different nationalities and cultures all gathered together to support Global Fashions. Over the course of the rehearsals, we all got to know each other a little better and I met lots of different people that I never would have met had I not participated in this multicultural event. Robin did an incredible job at portraying the show's message, which is that there is no template for beauty and that each culture possesses a unique view of what they consider to be beautiful. This was a great experience for me to go outside my social circle and learn about the diversity that exists right here in Victoria."

"In 2010 I had the privilege of participating in the Global Fashion Show as a model to promote multiculturalism within my own community...I strongly believe that there are not enough opportunities for women of all ages to come together that share this common interest to spread and display their own diversity...People, especially youth, need to know it's okay to be different and be proud of who you are. Robin did a fantastic job with the fashion show and her dedication and passion really showed through. I will definitely participate in the 2011 Fashion Show and encourage others to be involved."

"...As more and more "ethnic" festivals seem to disappear in Victoria, it was so refreshing to see this gathering at the GLOBAL FASHIONS. By the end of the night there was a true feeling of "community" and desire to continue to contribute to the rich tapestry of our "ethnic" community....These kinds of events are not only a great opportunity for our ethnic community to share their rich culture and values, but add an important contribution to our society as a whole."

- Lilia Peterson,
Director of Lilia's Polynesian Dance Co.
Global Fashions 2010/11 Dancer for the Cook Islands

"...Even in those first meetings you could see that Robin was a hard working and passionate individual. She has an excellent sense of self and responsibility. The show was well organized and executed right from beginning to end. It received wonderful community support. Anyone who I know who attended the show has said the show was excellent and the cause great. They would all attend again.
Robin is very passionate about VIRCS and that was something I was fortunate to experience right from the moment I met her....Canada is built on multiculturalism and what better way to showcase it then to support the women who help make Canada what it is!...Not to mention the educational experience that many of the volunteers acquired during the rehearsals and show. I got to meet so many new people and experience places in Victoria I never normally would have all thanks to the opportunities presented to me by being involved with the show. It was so much fun to experience the different cultures and even get a taste of my own heritage! Then to realize I can experience this all without leaving the city of Victoria...Magical! It really was an experience that made a mark on my life and I will be waiting for next year's show with much anticipation!"

" Any time the diversity of the multi-cultural aspect of Victoria's population is highlighted is a positive and rewarding experience for all of us. We, at Sons of Norway, would be delighted to take part in such an event again as organized by Robin Adams."
